Maldives Resort Celebrate Chinese New Year with Traditional Performances

11/02/20

Chinese New Year 2020 has left us unforgettable memories and events. Scarlett Entertainment went to Velaa Private Island Maldives and we are delighted to have organised entertainment for the Chinese New Year to welcome the year of the Rat! .

Our Account Manager, Georgie Tyson, organised a stunning mixture of traditional entertainment for the occasion including lion dancers, delicious sugar paintings, circus performers and a Guzheng player.

Event planners contacted Georgie with the idea of having some circus artists performing different routines throughout a three-day period. Aiming to surprise resort guests with unique and exciting circus performances, they ended up booking various traditional Chinese New Year entertainment options following Georgie’s recommendation.

Adding an extra touch of colour to the stunning island background, locals and visitors enjoyed the performance of our musician, circus entertainers and sugar painter. Seen performing underneath palm trees and the iconic bridges that connect the overwater villas, our  Guzheng player delighted listeners with authentic Chinese sounds laced with tradition and heritage.

Those with a sweet tooth also enjoyed the delicious food sculptures created by our Chinese sugar painter. Showcasing a tasty Chinese tradition consisting of creating small animals made of hot melted sugar, this talented folk artist created delicious food sculptures of any of the 12 existing Chinese signs according to each person’s birth year.

About Velaa Private Island Maldives

Nestled within the constellation of islands that form the Noonu Atoll in the Maldives, Velaa Private Island takes exclusivity to the next level with facilities and service that go beyond traditional resorts. Designed by award-winning Czech architect Petr Kolar as “an elegant fusion of Maldivian culture with contemporary luxury, intimate with Maldivian nuances”.

Velaa Private Island is the realisation of a dream to create a “beyond luxury” exclusive boutique hideaway in the Maldives. Velaa means “Turtle” in the local language – named after generations of sea turtles that flock there to nest and hatch. From a broader “bird’s eye view” which greets arrivals by seaplane, the island’s exclusive over-water villas are also constructed to resemble the head of a turtle, with the island forming the body.

The resort comprises 47 private villas, houses and exclusive residences. While 18 of the 47 are built over water, the Romantic Pool Residence can only be reached by boat, allowing even more privacy and exclusivity.
