Scarlett’s Wedding Trends for 2016
As 2016 gets well and surely underway many couples will be beginning to plan their big days after a romantic winter proposal or be putting the finishing touches to their weddings that are fast approaching as the elusive spring and summer months draw ever nearer.
Scarlett Entertainment was recently lucky enough to be asked to contribute to the eagerly anticipated annual International Wedding Trends Report released by the UK Academy of Wedding & Event Planning. As leaders in the field of training for the wedding event industry, The Academy’s annual report is seen as a sort of bible for industry professionals and amateur planners alike and features contributions from 50 wedding industry experts. So it will come as no surprise that we were more than happy to give our thoughts on what will be hot in the world of wedding entertainment for this coming year!
Discerning trends is always difficult, some trends are perennial and stand the test of time whilst others come and go from wedding season to wedding season. We receive requests for wedding entertainment on a daily basis, some couples are looking for entertainment that matches a certain theme, is aimed at getting guests involved and bringing them out of their shells, or just entertainment that reflects their personalities.
So what wedding entertainment is going to be most popular and on trend for 2016? We’ve got three of our top picks for you:
1) Bride & Groom Reveals
Entertainment doesn’t just have to be limited to the ceremony, drinks reception and evening party! We’re seeing that the bride and groom are making the most of their big day and all the limelight that entails with some truly impressive bride and groom reveals. With the aim of surprising each other and their guests in a fun and unique way, we’ve had requests for the bride to be flown in on a heliosphere and the groom to be part of a flashmob dance routine. Other ideas include being magicked into your venue by one of our fantastic illusion artists, or appearing as part of an elaborate parade with performers to suit your theme including acrobats, stilt artists and fire acts!
2) A New Age of Music
Traditional party bands will never go out of favour, but we are seeing a definite rise in the popularity of alternative types of music for the evening party entertainment. Many couples are combining high-energy DJ sets with amazing live musicians like saxophonists and violinist – or even a whole band! This combination of DJ and live musicians means that couples are guaranteed their favourite songs are played just how they love them, but with the added charisma and energy of a live performance. Many of the choices for combining musicians can offer wireless sets, which allow them to roam amongst your guests on the dance floor for added wow factor.
Last year we saw the emergence of the electro swing band and they are set to be as popular ever in 2016. Playing a style of music that encompasses all the glamour and style of the much-loved swing era but with injections of modern dance sounds, this type of music has a cross-generational appeal and will never fail to get guests of all ages on the dance floor. It also works well with a range of themes including 1920s, vintage, rustic and whimsical.
3) Let's Get Physical
Well maybe not physical as such, but couples are opting for interactive entertainment that will ensure their guests never have the chance to be bored during their special day!
For the drinks reception, living tables topped with delicious treats and canapés, ladies in dresses specially designed for holding champagne flutes and champagne aerialists are popular choices. Not only are they fun and novel they also make for fantastic photo opportunities.
Speaking of snapping the perfect picture, the endless fun provided by photo booths, video booths and green screens are still as a popular as ever and it’s a trend that we don’t think will ever go out of fashion. Adding smiles, whimsy and plenty of laughter to weddings, interactive photo opportunities make a great addition to your traditional photographer and are an excellent way to make extra special memories and keep as mementoes.
We’re also seeing that LED dancers and robots are also becoming an increasingly prevalent choice of entertainment to get guests warmed up for the evening party. We’ve got a fantastic array of LED dancers from impressive high-energy Tron dancers to beautifully elegant LED ballerinas, many of our LED acts can also create bespoke costumes to suit your theme though this is of course dependant on budget!
And The Rest…
Of course, it’s not all about the entertainment, before you even think about things to keep your guests occupied throughout the day you’ll have decided on your colour palette and theme – the two things that form the very foundation of your big day.
This year it’s all about subtle metallic and fresh natural tones, either on their own or mixed together to form a unique palette. Shades of blues, greys, purples, mint and rose are all gorgeous options that can be worked into your big day, from the flowers and table decorations, to bridesmaid dresses and even an ombré style cake in your chosen colour.
Your wedding theme is very much a personal choice – is it something that represents who you are as a couple, reflects the style and tone of your venue or something that you are both passionate about (we’ve all seen those Harry Potter themed weddings on Pinterest and Buzzfeed!)?
Fairytale is a big theme to watch out for this year, whether it’s a winter wonderland or enchanted garden style wedding, this theme will see lots of twinkling fairy lights, intricate details such as hanging lanterns, green garlands and pastel shades. Flower adorned walkabout characters and string quartets can perfectly set the tone at your drinks reception for this theme.
If you’re looking for a theme that will add a fanciful touch to your big day and show off your quirky humour, then whimsy is for you! A fantastically fun theme that can easily incorporate many of the little details that will make your wedding day personal to you, whether you really love the upbeat rhythms of mariachi music or the enchantment offered by the funfair – your whimsical wedding can be realised in any way you like.
The Perfect Setting
Couples are looking for venues that reflect who they are and the lifestyle that they lead – something that is personal and important to them, be that a beautiful hotel on the coast with access to a beach, a farm with breathtaking views of the countryside, a majestic manor house with stunning grounds or even a destination that holds special memories.
It’s about bringing together family and friends in an intimate setting in which everyone can all celebrate together, and enjoy the day.
