Saint Petersburg Named ‘Europe’s Leading Destination’ At World Travel Awards
The Russian city of Saint Petersburg has been recognised as a top tourist destination for the second year running at the World Travel Awards.
Held at Forte Village Resort in Sardinia, the Europe Gala Ceremony 2016 celebrated the best organisations across all sectors of the tourism industry. Rewarding excellence in fields such as travel, airline, hotel, hospitality, incentives and more, the WTAs named Saint Petersburg as Europe’s Leading Destination due to its rich history, age-old traditions, and bright future.
According to the city’s Tourism Development Committee, almost 7 million tourists visited Saint Petersburg in 2015, with Russia’s northern capital attracting visitors from countries such as Germany, Finland, Italy, China, and more.
It was also revealed at the ceremony that Saint Petersburg will be hosting the World Travel Awards in 2017.
World Travel Awards President Graham Cooke said: “Saint Petersburg is one of the most famous cities in the world and this is a fantastic opportunity for the city to take its rightful place as a top rank tourism destination”
