Exclusive Artists: Scarlett Entertainment Signs Benedict Morris
Scarlett Entertainment is proud to announce an exclusive collaboration with Scottish fiddle player Benedict Morris. As an artist that is making a remarkable impact on the traditional music scene throughout the UK, we’re delighted to represent Benedict exclusively.
Named BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician 2019, Benedict is a rising star of traditional music. Originally from Glasgow, he’s been highly praised for his ‘virtuosity’ by critics and prestigious publications such as the Irish Music Magazine. Described as ‘magnificent’ by Sharon Mair at BBC Scotland, Benedict is one of the finest fiddle players in the UK.
Introduced to traditional Scottish and Irish music at the age of five, Benedict’s love for folk music and the fiddle has only grown ever since. His passion led him to participate in a competition organised by BBC Radio Scotland as part of the Celtic Connections festival early this year, where he beat five other finalists.
After his recognition as BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician, he started to collaborate with fellow BBC winners Ryan Murphy and Pablo Lafuente. The trio specialises in the fusion of authentic folk and traditional music and will soon be recording an album.
Throughout his incipient but already fruitful artistic path, Benedict can name some extraordinary accomplishments such as joining Talisk on their UK Tour of 2019, performing with Ímar at Tønder - one of Europe’s biggest folk festivals - and performing for a sell out audience in Dublin’s 3 Arena.
One of the highlights of this young musician’s career was his performance at the Last Night of the Proms in the Park on Glasgow Green, where he took the stage accompanied by the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. The performance was the ‘stand-out moment’ of the night according to Proms Executive Producer Stephanie McWhinnie.
Some of his other bands include a duo with Irish guitarist Cormac Crummey. The duo released their debut album “Wavelength” in November 2018. The album’s great reception earned Benedict and Cormac a place on the Long List for the Northern Ireland Music Prize in 2019. Read more about this Traditional Folk Duo.
