A Guide to Phuket Ahead of The Destination Wedding Planners Congress 2017
A gathering of the most influential and high-end destination wedding planners and suppliers in the world, The Destination Wedding Planners Congress is the only event of its kind.
Taking place from the 2 – 4 May, the event is only a few weeks away. We’ve come up with a quick guide of Phuket and what there is to look forward to about the congress this year. Make sure you’re prepared for this incredible destination as well as the event itself.
What to Expect at The Destination Wedding Planners Congress
Last year in Florence we saw…
Last year saw invitees jetting off to the stunning renaissance city of Florence where they were entertained by traditional Tuscan entertainment, and whisked off to venues across the city for networking and educational sessions. From incredible event décor and entertainment, to excellent networking opportunities in a beautiful city you might have thought that last years meet would be hard to beat.
This year in Phuket we’ll see…
If you’re one of the select that have been invited to this exclusive event, you’ll know that this year’s destination is exotic Phuket – or as some like to call it the ‘pearl of the Andaman’.
To be held at the Banyan Tree Laguna, a stunning luxury resort adjacent to the white sands of Bangtao Beach, The Destination Wedding Planners Congress 2017 promises to be even more spectacular this year.
As always there will be extravagant cocktail receptions and ritzy luncheons, interspersed with a fantastic programme of sessions that will include topics like: the luxury wedding market, pricing and profits, collaboration with vendors, emerging markets, and social media marketing.
There is also once again an impressive line-up of confirmed international speakers including Kevin Lee whose celebrity clients include Brad Pitt and Oprah Winfrey, and Bryan Rafanelli CEO of one the biggest event planning and design companies in the USA having worked with President Obama and Matt Damon.
Last year’s venues were adorned with flowers, candles and created an exclusive ambiance with sophisticated accent lighting, whilst elegant and unique entertainment like the red dress entrance arch and acts traditional to the locale entertained guests. This year we’re sure that we’ll see the same level of elegant event décor alongside some traditional Thai entertainment.
Floral displays are still very much on trend, but we bet that they’ll have an exotic twist to match the location. In terms of local traditional Thai entertainment, Thailand is known for its graceful classical and folk dances that place great importance on exact finger and hand movements that can often be quite complex. Of course exquisitely elaborate traditional Thai costumes and headdress add to the overall beauty of the dances’ aesthetic.
A Quick Guide to Phuket
At 576km squared, Phuket is the largest island in Thailand and has a population of just over 600,000 people. Boasting some of the most beautiful natural settings in the world, with its tropical forests, blue lagoons, white sand beaches and crystal clear waters, it’s not surprising that Phuket is home to a large number of high-end and luxury 5-star resorts like the Avista Hideaway Resort and Spa, The Westing Siray Bay Resort and Spa and Kata Rocks Resort and Residencies. The island has also been the holiday destination for celebrities such as Rihanna and the Kardashians.
Aside from beaches and lagoons that will make you cry with joy at their beauty, Phuket also has a number of attractions that we’d recommend you see if you’re planning a little leisure time to coincide with your visit to the island for the Destination Wedding Planners Congress.
- The Big Buddha of Phuket is a must see, standing on the peak of a mountain near Phuket town the statue is 45metres high and clad in brilliant white Burmese marble. Finished in 2010, this really is a modern marvel!
- You can’t visit ‘The Pearl of the Andaman’ without visiting Phuket’s Pearl Farm. You can take a boat tour that takes you to two islands including the pearl farm and makes for a relaxing and picturesque day trip.
- Thalang National Museum has been recently renovated, and tiny though it is in size it holds a wealth of treasures that highlight the history of Phuket and its surrounding islands.
The recent completion of an expansion to Phuket’s international airport has seen it’s annual handling capacity double to 12.5 million passengers – an expansion that will be a huge benefit to the islands tourist industry. The airport is the international gateway to the island and can operate up to 24 flights per hour, with 10 airline services flying to and from the airport.
Phuket doesn’t have any rail infrastructure, however there are several modern buses that operate on bus routes across the island. Car and motorbike rental are also an option, tuk-tuks can be found all over the island and taxis are readily available though on the pricey side. Of course a plethora of boats and ferries run regular routes to outlying islands.
Getting Married in Thailand
As we’re talking about the Destination Wedding Planners Congress being held in Phuket, we couldn’t end this article without talking about Thailand as a destination wedding location.
For some couples the white sandy beaches and exotic feel of Thailand is exactly what they want from their wedding location. As a destination wedding planner you’ll know that sometimes it can be incredibly time consuming searching for high-quality local suppliers and that vigorous vetting is key.
Luckily as global entertainment specialists, we’ve got the entertainment side of your couple’s Thai wedding covered. We supply entertainment for weddings all over the world and have a number of trusted entertainers based in locations across Thailand.
Within this collection of local acts, we have a range of traditional Thai entertainment options including an authentic Thai dance show based in Bangkok. Featuring stunning costumes and expertly choreographed dance routines, this incredible authentic dance show would work perfectly as entertainment during the wedding breakfast.
For something to up the energy levels in preparation for the evening reception, our Fire Juggler Thailand can offer a mesmerising performance that will captivate guests as the sun starts to set across the horizon. Bringing together fire artistry and influences from Thai culture, this fantastic fire show will make a real impact.
Of course no evening reception is complete without a live music performance that will get family and friends on the dance floor – no crowd is too small, and as we always say it’s the quality of the dance moves rather than the quantity! This Bangkok based musical trio have created a unique sound that brings together soul and synth. Their performances of classic songs have an electro edge that will have guests itching to get on the dance floor.
Alternatively, our female rock band from Bangkok gives incredible, electric performances of both Thai and Western classic rock hits from across the ages. These ladies really know how to command a stage and will create a rocky atmosphere for the evening reception!
