The photoshoot was inspired by the artist’s favourite TV show and especially in her favourite characters: Daenerys Targaryen and Sansa Stark. Fashion designer Erin Foley, who was the designer in charge of the fashion, created two beautiful dress styles that perfectly capture the two characters’ personalities and their attitudes. The photographer also wanted to reflect the essence and spirit of the famous TV drama. That’s why she included some crucial elements such as Khaleesi’s platinum hair, huge chandeliers and real wolf dogs.
The location chosen was a private castle situated in a 121-acre private estate in the Eastern Mountains of the US, a perfect spot to recreate the cold atmosphere of Northern Westeros. Wedding theme Ideas for your fantasy themed wedding
Despite being set in a fictional era, Game of Thrones is clearly inspired by the Middle Ages. Everything, from your wedding invitations to your gown, can be designed so they follow this period’s aesthetics. So that your big day is planned down to the last detail, let’s summarise some Game of Thrones wedding inspiration ideas and how to make them happen.
Wedding décor ideas
To make your Game Of Thrones themed wedding as realistic as possible, decorative accessories such as big candles, parchment, extravagant wine glasses, banners with symbols and flags are essential. Taking George R.R. Martin’s saga as a reference, each family's house motif (deers, wolves, dragons…) must be part of the wedding decoration, both on walls and tables. Melted candles must be fitted into candleholders and, if held indoors, dim lighting will perfectly capture the essence of an authentic Westeros wedding as (remember!) they had no electricity.

Game of thrones wedding invitations
Your invitations are essential, as they’re going to be a preview of what guests can expect to see in a Game of Thrones themed wedding. The Middle Ages, even the fictional one we can see on the TV series, was a period rich in symbols, signs and emblems. Pride, family and nation were really serious matters. Therefore, family or territory symbols were used as decorative elements in letters, shields, flags, etc. For your Game of Thrones wedding invitations, you can choose of one the saga’s family symbols like the famous wolf from House Stark or a map of Westeros, like the ones you can see below, of if you prefer you could even create your own. You can also use sealing wax to give your Game of Thrones wedding invitations an authentic Medieval touch.

Game of thrones inspired wedding gowns
If not the most important, the bride’s wedding dress is one of the most important things to consider. This obviously needs to be inspired by one of the saga’s strong female characters like Daenerys Targaryen, Sansa Stark or Cersei Lannister. The undisputed favourite when it comes to weddings is the Mother of Dragons, whose warrior style and platinum hair are one of the most characteristic aspects of her style. Brides who would like to get married in a white dress can follow Khaleesi’s style and look stunning. Those brides who would like to wear something different can choose a different colour like blue, like the one below. No matter what dress the bride chooses, there are plenty of Game of Thrones inspired gowns to choose from and the below are only a few of the many ideas we can share with you.

Catering for an authentic Game of Thrones themed wedding
Regarding catering, quantity and quality are important as we’re talking about a Middle Ages high profile wedding. Excess is key, although always with a touch of elegance and sophistication. As so, large meat pieces (juicy steaks, tenderloins, leg of lamb, venison, veal or pork), fish and abundant garnishes and potatoes will leave every guest free from hunger. Using the antique cutlery and matching crockery and tablecloths, an authentic Game of Thrones atmosphere is more than guaranteed. Wine in great abundance (we know a Lannister who would agree), beer and strong liquors are also essential, and of course the wedding cake needs to be as original as possible. It can include characteristic details from your favourite TV series such as dragons or swords. Be careful when choosing your catering service though. We all already know what happen to the loathsome king Joffrey…
What is better than having a Game of Thrones Tribute show at your Game of Thrones themed wedding? You can book this amazing dance show inspired by the multi-award winning series and impress your guests with talented dancers dressed as Kahleesi, Kahl Droho and the Dothraki tribe. These performers will perform to the HBO’s TV show theme song and transport guests at your wedding to the far lands of Westeros with their thrilling performance.
Dragons can’t go amiss in a Game of Thrones themed wedding, especially if the bride wears a Kahleesi inspired wedding gown. The Mother of Dragons and queen of the Dothraki is always followed by her majestic friends, so they definitely need to be one of her VIP guests. This Mechanical Dragon will cause many jaws to drop with its leather looking skin, moving eyes, horns and teeth. This mystical creature will be the icing on the cake of any fantasy wedding, and the most applauded act of your wedding.
Cirque Winter Wonderland (AKA White Walkers)
They can be terrifying, but there are few things as representative of Game of Thrones as the white walkers, those winter creatures everybody’s scared of and the reason why everybody’s is afraid of winter coming. However, they can be a great addition to your themed wedding. Our Cirque Winter Wonderland performers can customise their outfits to suit your requirements and create the perfect ambience, in this case, for your Game of Thrones themed wedding. They can roam around your venue interacting with people, posing for pictures and offering guests a warm (or we should say cold) welcome at the entrance of your venue.
Medieval Walkabout Creatures
This magical creatures and characters are one of our favourite wedding theme ideas. Would you like to be guarded by a character such as The Hound or some of King Joffrey’s and Queen Cercei’s fearsome wardens? These Medieval Walkabout Creatures can majestically play that role at your wedding and protect you from any threats and assassination attempts. You know, just in case.
Walk around Court Jesters
A Medieval feast without buffoons would not be the same. Our Walk Around Court Jesters will take your wedding guests on a trip back to the Middle Ages with their brightly coloured Medieval outfits and their verbal and physical humour. Masters at putting smiles on people’s faces, these jesters will turn any situation into a comical one. Skilled mimes and jugglers, they will make guests at your wedding feel like they’re in a real Westerosian celebration.
Female Fire Show
Spectacles involving fire can be a great addition to any Medieval themed party, but if fire performers can also execute their tricks with heart shaped props, they can be the perfect entertainment for a Game of Thrones themed wedding. This is precisely what the dancers who perform this breath-taking Female Fire Show offer. You can pay a final tribute to George R. R. Martin’s original name (A Song of Ice and Fire) by booking these skilled fire performers who will raise the temperature in the room besides providing your special day with a touch of additional romanticism.
Medieval Celtic Folk Band
Music is an essential part of any wedding regardless of theme. However, we’re talking about a fantasy themed wedding inspired by Game of Thrones, which means the musicians booked for it should also follow the general aesthetics of the event. Groups like this Medieval Celtic Folk Band not only comply with this requirement, but they also provide the type of music you would expect to listen to at one of the TV series’ weddings. These traditional folk performers can recreate an authentic atmosphere by performing medieval melodies and Renaissance dances. Ideal for a sumptuous banquet, they will joyfully play ancient instruments during your wedding dinner and invite guests to join them in the dancing during your evening party.
Unique wedding themes are one of the trendiest ways to tie the knot these days. The above wedding theme ideas can give you a clue on where to start looking when it comes to throwing a Game of Thrones themed wedding. From invitations to decorative accessories and catering, there are plenty of ways you can create a truly realistic wedding inspired by the famous fantasy saga.
